On August 6, 2024, the Secretary General of MINMIDT, OUMAR ALI, representing the Acting Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, presided over the opening ceremony of the sensitisation workshop on the strategic use of trademarks for SMEs in Cameroon.
This workshop, organised in collaboration with the African Intellectual Property Organisation (OAPI) and the Agency for the Promotion of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, is held under the theme: < Trademark Protection: Development Challenges for Businesses in Cameroon>.
This event aims to raise awareness among economic operators and SMEs on the advantages of trademark protection, both nationally and internationally, for business development and wealth creation. It also aims to increase the number of applications for industrial property titles and accompanying pre-diagnostic applications.
The various themes discussed during this event were as follows:
“trademark protection and economic development
“The economic and social consequences of trademark counterfeiting,
“The Madrid Protocol: challenges and benefits for Cameroon businesses”;
“Trademark registration procedure”. It is also important to note that the main targets of this workshop are company directors, economic operators and SME-SMI managers.
The ceremony, which took place at the Chamber of Agriculture with the participation of several MINMIDT officials and other public organisations, ended with a presentation of some of Cameroon’s success stories in this area.
